What is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry helps lessen dental anxiety and fears during dental treatment, which allows the dentist to work while you relax. There are different forms of sedation and most are well tolerated by our patients, even children. After an initial evaluation of your medical history, we may use laughing gas or IV sedation, depending on what is best for you.
Sedation Dentistry
Our staff at Dental Design Co uses nitrous oxide for sedation dentistry. Better known as “laughing gas” or “happy gas,” nitrous oxide is an effective and safe way to help patients relax. Sedation is a means of producing a state of calm, but stops short of putting one to sleep. With nitrous oxide, you will be alert enough to hear and respond to the dentist and ask questions, but you will also be able to relax while anxiety and stress are greatly reduced.
To administer nitrous oxide, a mask is placed on your nose and you will breathe a combination of the gas and oxygen. We can easily control the amount of gas, so you get only what you need. It works quickly and once your treatment is complete, recovery takes only minutes. This means you can easily drive yourself to and from your dental appointments.
Dental and Oral Health
We are happy to offer our patients sedation dentistry to help them relax. Dental visits can bring much fear and anxiety, especially if you are in pain or have had a bad experience in the past. Knowing that you can relax through your appointment without feeling stress can make future visits much easier, which can help you improve your oral health.
When our patients are relaxed, dental visits are shorter and easier for both the patient and the dentist. And when it comes to oral health, prevention is best so that small problems don’t turn into big ones. Regular visits become much easier with less stress, which means a better chance to prevent the following:
- Tooth decay
