How it Works
After an initial exam, we will know if you are a candidate for Invisalign. Using computer imaging, we will be able to learn what your outcome will look like, so you know what your results will look like ahead of time. Regular dental visits allow us to track and monitor your progress and continue creating the right trays for your next level of treatment. Here is what the process will look like:
- We conduct an initial exam to check your oral health and ensure Invisalign is the best dental solution
- X-rays and mouth moulds will be used to help us see how your teeth will progress with the final result and share the results with you
- After you have approved the treatment, a series of dental trays will be created for you
- When we receive your new set of trays, you will come for a visit so we can make sure they fit right, and you will be given instructions for use
- Ongoing monthly checkups will help us monitor your progress and overall dental health
- The treatment lasts from 6 to 18 months, usually followed by a retainer
How to Use Invisalign
Once your trays are completed and know how to use them, you will receive individualised instructions for care and use. Each patient has different needs, so we take those into account when it comes to wearing time, dental exams and cleaning. But in general, you can expect the following:
- Most trays must be worn from 20 – 22 hours every day
- Rinse your tray and gently scrub it every evening as instructed
- Trays must be removed for eating and drinking
- Each aligner will have a set number of days that you must wear them before moving on to the next tray, usually 1-2 weeks
- Brush and rinse your teeth after meals, and floss according to instructions, before you replace your tray
When your treatment is complete, you will enjoy your new smile with a mouthful of beautifully aligned teeth. But just like regular braces, once your Invisalign treatment is complete, you will be fitted with a dental retainer that will ensure your teeth remain in their new positions and not shift back. A retainer may be worn from 3 to 24 months and can be worn with comfort and ease.
